Everyone,
As you know, our group has been very busy during the past year! We've already hosted our first SQL Saturday, we're gearing up for a smaller event in October, and are in the early planning stages for another big SQL Saturday next year. Group meeting attendance continues to increase, and we're building critical relationships with sponsors and partners.
As a result of our growth, your board of directors has voted to add another position to the board to handle the growing responsibilities of managing the group. Until recently, the fiscal responsibilities of the group were very minimal, and therefore we do not currently have a board position assigned to the role of financial management (those responsibilities were simply absorbed by another board member). However, with our most recent SQL Saturday event and 2 more coming down the pike, there are financial concerns that need hands-on management.
All of those interested are encouraged to run for the open board position. If you are interested and would like to be on the ballot, please send your letter of candidacy to the board at
board@ntssug.com. Each person who submits a letter of candidacy to the board email address will receive an acknowledgement of receipt within 24 hours. Your candidacy is confirmed when you get a response back from a board member. If you do not receive a confirmation within 24 hours, email us back or call Sri at 972/454-9512 or Tim at 903/436-3480. This will ensure that your email of intent is not getting blocked by spam filters etc.
For all candidates, it is recommended that you include the following information:
- Your name (of course)
- Your phone number (will not be shared with the group - this is only used if we need to contact you regarding the election process)
- A brief bio of yourself
- How long you've been an active participant with NTSSUG, and any notable group contributions (SQL Saturday volunteer, presentation at a group meeting, etc.)
- List of community contributions, career accomplishments, other leadership roles held, or other professional details that might be pertinent
- Your blog address, Twitter handle, Facebook URL, or other networking tools that you use professionally
- A brief summary of why you want to be a part of the board and why you'll make a good board member
This special election will be for a board position at-large. What this means is that although our current open seat is for the Director of Finance, the person elected to this position may or may not assume that particular role on the board. The board president will be responsible for assigning specific portfolios to the individual board members, which will be done after the election is complete.
All interested candidates will be invited to briefly address the NTSSUG group at our scheduled meeting on Thursday, August 19th. Voting will commence the following day, Friday, August 20th, and will continue until midnight on the following Thursday, August 26th. We will tally the votes and announce the new board member on Friday, August 27th, and that person will begin serving their term immediately. Because we're past the half way mark of this year, the person elected to this position will be up for re-election in November of 2012, a little over two years from now.
Here are some dates and deadlines to remember:
- Thursday, August 19th, 12:00 noon: The deadline for submitting your letter of candidacy
- Thursday, August 19th: During the regular NTSSUG meeting, each candidate will be allowed to briefly address the group. This is optional, but certainly recommended.
- Friday, August 20th: Voting begins. You will receive a link via e-mail that you can use to select the candidate of your choice.
- Thursday, August 26th, midnight: The deadline for submitting your vote for a candidate.
- Friday, August 27th: The new board member will be announced, and his/her term will begin immediately.
We look forward to hearing from the candidates, and are excited about this new addition to the NTSSUG leadership. As always, feel free to contact one of the board members (or all of us at
board@ntssug.com) with questions, comments, or concerns.
Sincerely,
The NTSSUG Board:
Erin Welker, Past President and Secretary
Sean McCown, Director of Programs
Sri Sridharan, President
Tim Mitchell, Director of Logistics and Communications
